About Republic Day Camp

Late President  Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam had said “Dreams are not what you see while you are asleep, but dreams are those that do not let you sleep.” Every NCC cadet dreams of being a part of the Republic Day Contingent, Delhi, which is indeed the most prestigious achievement.

The Republic Day Camp is a month-long affair, commencing from the last week of December and finally terminating with the Prime Minister’s Rally, on Jan. 28. All faculties of the cadets are tested during the preparations for this camp.

The preparations for the RDC- 2017 commenced in September 2016 for the NCC Cadets of Mysuru Group. The first selection camp was conducted at H.N. Pura in Hassan. 600 cadets competed for finding a spot in the elite RD contingent. This was pruned down to 191 cadets by the second camp held at Yelwal, Mysuru. Cadets were tested in Marching drill, talents in cultural events such as group song (folk), traditional dance and ballet performance linked to a socially relevant theme during October. 64 cadets reached the Inter Group Competition held at Yelwal, wherein selected Cadets from various parts of Karnataka, such as Bengaluru, Ballari, Belagavi and Mangaluru, as also Goa competed with each other to find a spot in the Team Karnataka and Goa. It resulted in a group of 16 cadets from Mysuru being selected for  further training.

The training continued at Air Force Station Jalahalli East, Bengaluru, duringNovember and December 2016. Finally, 14 Cadets from the Mysuru Group found their way into the Karnataka and Goa Contingent that left for New Delhi on Dec.28.

While competitive spirit motivates these young boys and girls to reach the skies, the Parade provides them an opportunity to achieve the motto of NCC which is, “Unity and Discipline.”

At the parade, the Cadets competed with other selected cadets drawn from 16 other NCC Directorates from various parts of the nation. It is indeed commendable to mention that Karnataka and Goa Directorate stood second at the All India-level overall.

Senior Under Officer (SUO) Priti S. Pai, a cadet of 3 Karnataka Girls Battalion NCC, Mysuru studying in Maharani’s College of Commerce and Management, was selected for marching on Rajpath in New Delhi on Jan. 26 and has been selected to represent the nation in Youth Exchange Programme (YEP) wherein she will be the State Guest to one of the 11 friendly foreign nations, later this year. SUO B.S. Nandini was awarded the Gold Medal for Ship Modelling at Inter Directorate Competition, where Karnataka and Goa Directorate stood first amongst all the 17 Directorates.

A tableaux representing the culture and tradition of the two States of Karnataka and Goa was prepared by the Cadets and was shown to the visiting VIPs.  The tableaux won the first spot amongst all the 17 Directorates.
