Sir,
The recent road rage incident in Maddur, in which goons beat a car driver on the head while he was driving with an infant, a small boy and elderly family members, makes everyone think twice before driving.
We are charged hefty tolls but do not get any assurance of safety. On such a busy Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway, I wonder why there are no CCTV cameras with live monitoring and regular patrolling.
In most countries, the police rush to the spot even after a small accident. When will we get such a system? We are getting Western cars and highways, but we are not adopting their driving discipline and enforcement systems.
In the West, after an accident, people simply exchange insurance details. There are also clear rules to determine who is at fault. This system should be introduced here and widely publicised through social media and television.
Two such incidents in one week are an eye-opener and are truly scary. The number of speed cameras also seems to have reduced, and we see people driving at 120-130 kmph. Speed cameras need to be installed every kilometre, or at least every five kilometres.
Rogue drivers should be caught at toll plazas as well as at checkpoints every 5-10 kilometres. The police need to be proactive, not reactive. Can our public representatives take the initiative to implement such measures and make our roads safer to drive on?
