Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. K.V. Rajendra has opined that as the conditions of the roads are improving, the number of road accidents are on the rise and hence there is a need to create awareness about the road accidents among the public.
Speaking at a meeting held at a District Road Safety Committee meeting held at DC Office here recently, the DC pointed out that nine deadly accidents have taken place in this month and directed the Committee to find out the actual reasons for these accidents and suggest measures to prevent accidents further.
Accidents usually happen because of bad roads, drunken driving, not wearing seat belts, over speed driving, using mobile phones while driving, not wearing helmets and incorrect way of wearing a helmet, the DC directed Police Department officials to find out the exact reason for the accidents and the measures taken by them to prevent such accidents in future.
Asking officials to hold a meeting every 15 days, the DC directed them to attend District Road Safety Committee meeting without fail. The DC directed PWD Executive Engineer Raju to issue notices to the officials of other departments who fail to attend the Road Safety meetings.
National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) Project Director B.T. Sridhar, National Highway Sub-Division Assistant Executive Engineer M.S. Rajendrakumar, Hunsur Sub-Division Assistant Executive Engineer and officials of Police Department were present at the meeting.
