Mysore/Mysuru: A three-day workshop aimed at enhancing the cybercrime investigation skills of Police officers was inaugurated at the Karnataka Police Academy (KPA), Mysuru, by Academy Director S.L. Chennabasavanna on Monday.

The initiative is expected to strengthen cybercrime response mechanisms and reinforce the commitment of the Police force to protect citizens in an increasingly digital world.

In his inaugural address, Chennabasavanna expressed concern over the alarming rise in cybercrime, which he said has become a significant challenge not only for law enforcement but also for society as a whole.

“Innocent citizens are increasingly falling victim to online fraud and exploitation, as cybercriminals adopt sophisticated technologies to commit their offences,” he noted. He emphasised the need for Police personnel to remain alert, informed and well-equipped to tackle these evolving digital threats.

“It is essential for officers to master cybercrime investigation techniques and ensure timely justice to victims,” he said.

Chennabasavanna also underlined the importance of a proactive approach, both in preventing cyber offences and conducting swift, effective investigations into reported cases.

The workshop, organised by the Karnataka Police Academy, is part of the State’s broader initiative to strengthen the cyber capabilities of its Police force. The training brings together senior officers, cyber law experts and educators in digital forensics to equip officers with practical tools and knowledge to deal with the complex nature of cybercrimes.

Participants are being trained not only on post-incident investigation methods but also on early intervention and preventive strategies. Emphasis is being placed on the application of cyber laws, data tracking techniques and emerging trends                                                in cyber fraud.

A total of 49 Police personnel from across Karnataka are attending the workshop, including two Deputy Superintendents of Police (Dy.SPs), nine Police Inspectors and 38 Sub-Inspectors.

Karnataka Police Academy Assistant Director and Workshop Coordinator M.H. Khan, along with other dignitaries, was present during the inaugural session.
