New Year Eve: 1 am deadline set for hotels, clubs and revellers

December 29, 2017

Mysuru: While picnics, family get-togethers, parties and merry makings have lined up for the New Year celebrations, consumption of liquor in gallons would be the centre of attraction of all these revelries. Looking at the celebration mode of the people, City Police have come up with certain precautionary measures to ensure that the festivities end peacefully.

With various hotels, restaurants, clubs and associations preparing for a grand bash on Dec. 31, City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subrahmanyeswara Rao and Superintendent of Police Ravi D. Channannavar have issued a set of rules and regulations to be followed on the New Year’s eve both in Mysuru City limits and district jurisdictions.

  • All establishments such as hotels, restaurants, clubs, resorts and associations that organise New Year parties must wind up before 1 am on Jan.1. However, the rule is not applicable for liquor shops with CL2 licenses.
  • Bars and Restaurants should take written permission from the Excise Department to sell liquor beyond the normal time during New Year celebrations and the same should be submitted to the jurisdictional Police Station.
  • Hotels, restaurants, clubs, resorts and associations must seek permission from the City Police Commissioner’s Office for organising special programmes. Loudspeakers are banned and the sound must not cross the limits of the venue where the party is taking place. Organisers must use box-type speakers so that the sound does not disturb others. Prior permission for hosting music and dance parties must be obtained from the jurisdictional Police.
  • Youth are warned against exhibiting indecent behaviour in public and creating nuisance in front of students’ and working women’s’ hostels. If they do so, they will be punished. Going on long drives after consuming alcohol, indulging in racing and wheelie, driving cars with blaring music is banned.
  • Obscene acts by youths on roads, gambling and harassing women in the guise of greeting them on New Year are strictly prohibited and special teams have been formed to keep track of such events.
  • Those using microphones should take permission from the Police Commissioner’s Office and ensure that the loud speakers do not cause disturbance to public. Organisers would be responsible for any untoward incident in their premises. Safety precautions must be taken by the organisers.
  • Bursting of crackers has been prohibited during New Year celebrations. Foreigners staying at hotels and resorts both inside and outside the city have to be given special protection.
  • No vehicle will be allowed entry to Chamundi Hill after 9 pm on Dec. 31. All entry points will be sealed. This rule, however, is not applicable to the residents of Chamundi Hill.
  • Consumption of alcohol in parks, roads and open grounds and driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited. Organising obscene dances and gambling at public places has been banned.
  • Hotels, restaurants and pubs have been asked to take the services of private security agencies for crowd control and preventing untoward incidents.
  • Action will be taken against people setting up buntings and banners without the prior permission of the jurisdictional Police.
  • Auto and taxi drivers have been asked not to fleece people who are returning from parties. People have been asked to inform the Police of such auto drivers along with their vehicle registration numbers.
  • Women can pass on the vehicle numbers to near and dear ones before boarding the hired vehicle.
  • Women are advised to not wear expensive jewellery. Always be in a group and avoid secluded places. People must take care of their children and not leave them at party venues unattended. Women have been advised not to go with strangers while returning home.
  • People celebrating New Year at far off places must ensure that their jewellery and cash kept at home is safe.
