Newly-wed commits suicide

Mysore/Mysuru: A newly-wed couple, who had got married against the wishes of their parents, have committed suicide by hanging themselves from a tree on late Tuesday night near Bilikere in Hunsur taluk. The incident came to light yesterday morning when villagers saw the bodies hanging from the tree.

The deceased have been identified as Rakesh (24), son of Vijayakumar, a resident of Singamaranahalli village in Bilikere hobli and a 17-year-old girl.

Residents of the same village, Rakesh and the girl were said to be in love since about two years and their parents on learning about this had opposed their relationship besides advising them.

Even though the elders had advised them, Rakesh and the girl, who were hell-bent on marrying each other, had left their homes on September 2021 and their parents had lodged missing complaints on Sept. 23 and Sept. 29, 2021. The Police, who had registered a case had launched a search but were unable to trace Rakesh and the girl. But on Tuesday late night, Rakesh and the girl, who came to Singamaranahalli village, committed suicide by hanging from a tree at a farm land in the village and the incident came to light the next day morning.

Bilikere SI Lakshmamma and staff, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar, brought down the hanging bodies in front of the deceased family members and shifted the bodies to MMC&RI mortuary in Mysuru for post-mortem besides registering a case. Police said that the minor girl had a mangalasutra around her neck, which shows that they were married.

Post-mortem was conducted and bodies were handed over to their family members yesterday.
