Mysuru: A two-day national seminar on ‘Tribal development in India: Issues and challenges’ organised by Karnataka State Tribal Research Centre (KSTRC), Mysuru was held at the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) here on Wednesday. About 50 research scholars participated in the seminar.

Inaugurating the programme, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Study Centre, Karnataka University, Dharwad Co-ordinator Subhashchandra Natikar observed that of late, the society is ruled by selfish people with the deserving class at the receiving end. 

He opined that the schemes worth crores of rupees of State and Central Governments were not being implemented promptly. He regretted that many micro tribals do not receive any benefits with the stronger groups walking away with lion’s share. He expressed displeasure at the mushrooming of NGOs claiming to protect the interests of the tribals and such NGOs should be brought under the scanner for accountability and efficacy.

Retired IAS officer B. Shivappa, KSRTC, Mysuru Director T.T. Basavanagowda, Research Officer H.N. Gayatri, HOD of Anthropology M.R. Gangadhar and others were present.
