No more plastic atop Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta in Gundlupet

October 17, 2019

Chamarajanagar:  Chamarajanagar District Administration has imposed ban on the use of plastic atop the famous Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta located in Bandipur Forest Range at Gundlupet taluk with effect from today.

The Forest Department, which is in-charge of implementing the ban, has been selling cloth bags at the check-post to prevent devotees carrying puja materials in plastic bags. Each bag is being sold at Rs.25.

This apart, the cloth bags that have been brought from Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu are supplied by the Forest Department to shops at Hangala and Melukamanahalli villages for free of cost. The shop owners have been asked to sell the bags and remit the amount with the Forest Department.

Himavad Gopalaswamy Hills attracts a lot of devotees who come to visit the famous Sri Krishna (Himavad Gopalaswamy) Temple located atop the hill.

With devotees littering plastic bags atop the hill, the District Administration imposed ban on plastic.

Earlier, visitors used to pollute the place by leaving behind liquor bottles and leftover food atop the hill. Later, the Forest Department banned the entry of private vehicles which completely reduced the menace.
