No plans to replace face of Mahatma Gandhi on bank notes, clarifies RBI

New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday said that there is no proposal to change existing currency and bank notes by replacing the face of Mahatma Gandhi with that of others. It denied reports which claimed that RBI was considering changes to the existing currency and bank notes.

“There are reports in certain sections of the media that the Reserve Bank of India is considering changes to the existing currency and bank notes by replacing the face of Mahatma Gandhi with that of others. It may be noted that there is no such proposal in the Reserve Bank,” the Central Bank clarified in a statement.
