‘It is inevitable for farmers to give up land for development’

Mandya:  There is no question of the State Government dropping the Disneyland project at KRS Dam and Brindavan Gardens, said Mandya District Minister C.S. Puttaraju who also holds the portfolio of Minor Irrigation.

Commenting on the Disneyland-like project at KRS Dam during his visit to Thonnur Lake yesterday, the Minister said that though the issue has raised several debates, there is no question of backtracking on the project. If land acquisition is inevitable, the farmers have to spare their lands.

“Even I have 10 acres of land and it is inevitable to spare the lands for development. The 125-ft Cauvery statue will not pose a threat to the Dam, if scientific methods are followed. The project will generate employment for lakhs of people”, he said.

“Opposing development works for political reasons has hit development of Mandya district. The government has decided on the Disneyland project following the advice of experts,” he said.

Criticising those who are opposing installation of statue at the foot of KRS, Puttaraju said, “Why should we oppose it as it will give employment to thousands of people. There is availability of 300 acres around KRS and farmers were voluntarily giving away their land to Mysuru-Bengaluru National Highway expansion,” he added.
