‘Not Mandya, students can get better education in UoM’

March 12, 2025

Mandya: Former Deputy Chairman of State Legislative Council Marithibbegowda observed that University of Mysore (UoM) is better than Mandya University for students to get better education.

Addressing media persons recently, he opined that UoM has a very rich history and students from Mandya can look for better education there, rather than the poorly equipped Mandya Varsity.

The previous Government established Varsities according to its whims and fancies in the State, showing a scant concern towards providing basic infrastructural facilities. A University requires not less than 50 acres of land and Rs. 500 crore to establish the facility. But the past Government announced Rs. 50 crore, but allocated Rs. 10 lakh, which makes it impossible for the smooth functioning of the Varsity.

Instead of mushrooming of Varsities, Mysuru, Bengaluru, Dharwad, Davangere, Mangaluru and Hampi Universities should have been developed further with additional facilities, along with recruiting more lecturers to facilitate students’ education, said Marithibbegowda.

Mysore Varsity has its own history, that has a better ticking among the students, who if want to make a choice with Mandya Varsity, will obviously prefer the former. If Mandya Varsity is merged with Mysore Varsity, and more teaching faculty is recruited with further amenities, that will attract more number of students towards the colleges in Mandya, affiliated to Mysore Varsity.

The Government should recruit adequate number of teachers to Varsities and adjust their pay scale, to address complaints of disparity in salary, without subjecting students to carry the burden of political willingness, he opined.
