NSS Unit holds free health camp for villagers

Mysuru: -The JSS Medical College National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit had organised a special camp at 6 villages in Pandavapura Taluk recently.

With a formal inauguration programme at Nugghalli village, Dr. Shivaprakash,  Assistant NSS Programme Officer, welcomed the dignitaries. Dr. D. Sunil Kumar, NSS Programme Officer, explained the aims and objectives of NSS and mentioned the expectations from volunteers in the special camp.

Inaugurating the camp, Sunitha Puttannaiah congratulated JSS Medical College for choosing the under-served village areas and stressed upon the importance of timely medical aid by remembering her husband late MLA K.S. Puttannaiah’s untimely death.

Dr. M.R. Narayana Murthy, Professor and HoD of Community Medicine, enlightened the  villagers about the increasing trend of both communicable and non-communicable diseases.

S.R. Satish Chandra, Administrative Officer, JSS Medical College advised the volunteers to use this camp as a learning opportunity by serving tthe community

Gangadhar, Assistant Administrative Officer, JSS Medical College wished the camp all the success. Sakamma, President Gram Panchayat, Purushotham, PDO and other leaders of the village were present. Dr.T. Bharath proposed a vote of thanks.

The free health check-up camp was organised across six villages namely Nugghalli, Chikkamarali, Kanaganamaradi, Chikkabyadrahalli, Agtahalli and Doddabyadarahalli of Pandavpura Taluk in Mandya District.

About 1,179 patients got the benefits of this free camp. The patients above 40 years were screened for Diabetes, Hypertension and cardiovascular diseases using ECG. They were given treatment on spot with the help of specialists from General Medicine, Paediatrics and Gynaecology. The ones who are in need of advanced care were referred to JSS Hospital, Mysuru.

Free dental health checkup camp was also held where 82 people benefited. The NSS volunteers enacted street plays on important issues like Hand Hygiene, alcohol and tobacco ill effects, AIDS prevention under Red Ribbon Club.

The valedictory programme of the camp was held at Doddabyadarahalli. Dr. D. Sunil Kumar, Dr. S. Shivaprakash, Dr. T. Bharath, M.R. Naveen, PDO, Siddaraju, Secretary and others were present on this occasion.
