Mysuru: With the onset of monsoon, K.R. MLA S.A. Ramdas chaired a meeting of MCC and MUDA officials at the MCC’s Old Council Hall on Thursday.

During the meeting, Ramdas asked the officials to remove the silt in 72-km-long Raja Kaluves across the city and thus pave way for smooth flow of storm water.

Highlighting the problems of the people in K.R. Constituency, which he came to know when he toured most parts of his Constituency over the past week, Ramdas pointed out that when he was a Minister earlier, K.R. Constituency was free of bore-wells. Now over 300 borewells have been drilled in the Constituency in the past five years for providing drinking water.

Instructing the officials to check the quality of water in borewells, the MLA asked the officials to lay pipelines for supplying drinking water from Cauvery and Kapila river sources.

Pointing out that seven waste segregation plants are functioning across the city and that those plants will reduce the load on Sewage Farm at Vidyaranyapuram, he said that the seven plants are segregating 38 tonnes in total.

Asking the officials to take initiatives for starting the plants in the University Campus and at Saraswathipuram, he stressed on the need for coming up with an action plan for setting up a power generation unit out of wastes collected in Rayanakere and Kesare plants.

Referring to the stench emanating from Sewage Farm, he said that the stench can be stopped if the seven lakh tonnes of waste collected in the farm is wholly covered.

Noting that measures are underway for burying waste in a two-and-a-half-acre area, he said that the process will commence from Aug. 1.

He further said that tree saplings will be planted in this area.

Referring to vacant sites, Ramdas said that the MCC should engage an agency to keep the sites clean by charging the site owners at Rs. 2 a square foot. He suggested that the vacant sites be cleared at-least twice a year.

Maintaining that several underground drainage systems in the Constituency were unscientific, he said these drainages are proving to be a health hazard to the residents.

Meanwhile, MCC Commissioner K.H. Jagadeesha said that the meeting discussed the measures taken for cleaning encroachments on Raja Kaluves.

Stating that borewells that discharge unsafe drinking water will be closed, he said that a two-month deadline has been set for making K.R. Constituency borewell-free.

He further said that necessary measures have been taken to replace street lights with LED bulbs.
