Oldest MP in Parliament Shafiqur Rehman Barq dies at 94

New Delhi: Senior Samajwadi Party leader and India’s oldest MP in Parliament from Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal, Shafiqur Rahman Barq, passed away following prolonged illness at a private hospital in Moradabad yesterday. He was 94.

Barq, who has been a four-time MLA, was elected as MP from Sambhal for the fifth time in 2019. He was elected MP from Moradabad thrice and represented Sambhal twice in Parliament.

“The demise of senior leader of Samajwadi Party and MP, Shafiqur Rahman Barq Saheb, is extremely sad. May his soul rest in peace. May the bereaved family members get the strength to bear this immense sorrow. Heartfelt tribute!” Samajwadi Party said in a post on X.
