On over-speeding and use of high beam lights

November 20, 2019

Sir,

This is with reference to the damage caused recently to the RTO Circle (Srikanteshwara Iyer Circle) on JLB Road in city when a speeding car crashed into it in the early hours (Car ploughs through RTO Circle, Star of Mysore dated Nov. 18).

Failure to notice it due to the glittering headlights of a vehicle coming in the opposite direction was said to be the reason for this accident. The extent of damaging indicates that this car might be moving at a good speed. It is to his luck, excepting considerable damage to the city property (see pic) and his car, nothing happened to him or other road users.

In spite of repeated publicity of Traffic Police and other individuals (High beam horror, SOM dated July 22, 2019) use of high beam lights within the city limits is being continued by irresponsible drivers. I am personally cautioning such drivers whenever I see high beam lights.

On the other side, for road safety sake one should slow down while approaching the cross roads, especially in the wee hours, as we do not know who will come from which direction and road safety violations are rampant on city roads. This accident could have been avoided had the driver slowed down his car before approaching the Circle. At least after knowing about such incidents vehicle users should stop using high beam lights on city roads and drive with caution to avoid such accidents.
