One more mahout gored to death in Dubare Camp

May 5, 2017

Kushalnagar: Elephant Karthik, which had killed a mahout on Apr. 17 at Dubare Elephant Camp, has gored another mahout to death last evening.

The deceased mahout has been identified as Mani (23) of Dubare Elephant Camp. Mani yesterday evening went near elephant Karthik to feed him, when it suddenly gored him (Mani) with his tusks killing him on the spot, according to Forest personnel.

DFO Suryasen, ACF M.S. Chinnappa and RFO Nehru, who visited the spot, shifted the body to Siddapur General Hospital for post-mortem.

It is alleged that the Forest Department officials had not taken any precautionary measures even though they were aware that the elephant same had killed mahout Annu on April 17, when he had gone to feed him.

It may be recalled that Karthik, on Apr. 16 night had gored one Chandru, who had gone near it in a drunken state, injuring him. The elephant’s behaviour has created a sense of fear among other mahouts and kavadis who are refusing to go near Karthik.
