Online fraud: Software Engineer cheated of Rs. 2.90 lakh

Mysore/Mysuru: A software engineer, who wanted to buy a second hand car, has been cheated of Rs. 2.90 lakh. The person, who was cheated, is 34-year-old M. Manoj, a resident of Ramakrishnanagar ‘H’ Block in city.

Manoj, who wanted to buy a second hand car, was browsing through a second hand car dealer’s website, where he got mobile phone numbers of two persons who wanted to sell their cars and called the phone numbers.

Meanwhile, one of the two persons, who contacted Manoj on WhatsApp, told him that he was working in the Army and asked Manoj to transfer Rs. 3,150 as charges for car transportation. Later, the person got Rs. 2.90 illegally transferred from Manoj’s Bank account, thus cheating him.

A case has been registered at City’s Cyber, Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police Station.
