Online frauds: Four from city lose over Rs. 9 lakh to fraudsters

Mysore/Mysuru: In separate cases, four from city have lost a total of Rs. 9,67,229 to online fraudsters. In the first case, a 45-year-old woman has lost Rs. 6,24,500 to an online fraudster.

The woman, who lost her money, is Roopa, a resident of Saraswathipuram in city. One Anand, who called Roopa on her mobile phone, told her that he belongs to a reputed Mutt in the State and also told her that he would solve her problems.

Anand, who used to call Roopa frequently, made her believe him through his wise talks and it was then Roopa revealed to him that her husband had committed suicide and a case was going on in the Court to which, Anand told her that he would perform a special puja so that the case would be in her favour.

Telling her that the special puja would cost her lakhs of rupees and gave a Bank account number to Roopa asking her to deposit the money and got a total of Rs. 6,24,500 deposited in phases to the account.

Sensing that she has been cheated as she did not hear from Anand after he got the money deposited, Roopa has lodged a complaint at city’s Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Police Station.

In the second case, 46-year-old C. Chandrahas, a resident of Gandhinagar, who came across a loan providing advertisement in Dhani App, called the number displayed in the advertisement.

The person, who received the call, told Chandrahas that he has to pay Rs. 44,750 as insurance and GST fee and got the money transferred, thus cheating Chandrahas.

In the third case, 38-year-old Asma Begum of N.R. Mohalla, a tailor by profession, received a call asking her to provide her debit card details so that her card could be renewed.

As soon as Asma provided the details, a total of Rs. 1,46,979 was withdrawn illegally from her Bank account.

In the fourth case, 41-year-old K.J. Govardhan of Koorgalli, who transferred Rs. 1,51,000 to ‘S Ban’ account as online investment to fetch high returns, has been cheated.

City’s CEN Crime Police, who have registered separate cases, are investigating.
