Operation Decoy: Two vanity bag snatchers arrested

Rs. 1.7 lakh worth gold ornaments, bike and mobile phones recovered

Mysuru: Vijayanagar Police, with the help of women staff and following instructions from City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subrahmanyeswara Rao, who conducted ‘Operation Decoy’ near Vidyavardhaka College on Jan.8, have nabbed two vanity bag snatchers and have recovered gold ornaments and two mobile phones besides seizing a bike from them.

The arrested have been identified as 24-year-old Sunny Donald and 21-year-old Kiran, residents of R.S. Naidu Nagar in city.

The two were nabbed when they snatched a mobile phone from a woman Police staff on Jan.8 night near Oyster Bay Hotel and tried to escape on the bike.

During interrogation, the accused are said to have confessed of snatching a vanity bag containing gold ornaments and mobile phone from a woman pillion rider in front of Kalamandira on Hunsur Road on Dec.28, 2017 night and a purse from a woman near Vijayanagar Water Tank  on Dec.29, 2017.

The Cops have recovered gold ornaments worth Rs.1.7 lakh, two Samsung J7 Prime mobile phones and have also seized a Bajaj Pulsar bike from them.

Following such incidents, the Police Chief had instructed the Cops to take help of the women staff and conduct ‘Operation Decoy’ in their jurisdiction.

The accused were also experts in bike stunts and had committed similar crimes earlier for which cases were registered at N.R. and Jayalakshmipuram  Police Stations.

DCP Dr. Vikram V. Amathe and N.R. Sub-Division ACP Umesh G. Shet supervised Vijayanagar Inspector P.N. Anil Kumar, SI N. Ramachandra, ASI Krishna and staff Roopa, Mahesh, C. Sagar, Suresh, Eshwar and Shankar in the nabbing and seizing operation.
