Ordeal of visitors to Brindavan Gardens and traffic chaos

December 27, 2022

Sir,

The KRS Dam and Brindavan Gardens in Mandya District is a must-visit tourist destination for all those visiting Mysuru. The place gets a good number of visitors at all times and during weekends, holidays and vacation the footfall increases manifolds. The entry charge is Rs. 50 and parking ticket charges for four-wheeler is Rs.100.

The authorities concerned take no further interest once the amount has been pocketed.

Due to the Christmas break, the inflow of tourists on Saturday and Sunday was more. The traffic chaos that ensued thereafter is just unbelievable.

On Dec. 25, on reaching the parking lot to exit by 7.30 pm, we found ourselves stuck in a traffic jam which just didn’t move an inch till 9.45 pm. There were no authorities managing the situation, no Police on spot till 9.45 pm. By this time the general public took on the task of stepping in to try clearing the block.

A few good Samaritans who tried to help out had a tough time as arguments broke out frequently due to the frustration of the people.

If the tax-paying citizens have to fend for themselves at these places even after paying the entry and parking fees, then what is the purpose of collecting the parking fees, if the collecting authority has no responsibility? What is the role of Police in  such situations?

This is not a one time incident. The local people there mentioned that on 24th December the block got cleared only at 12.30 in the night. Imagine the plight of people visiting there as part of a school trip or with family with small kids or with old people, or people who require food and medicine on time?

It is high time Mandya District authorities take action against the concerned and not turn a blind eye towards such gross negligence. The tourist destination may not be so sought-after if such situations continue.

Tourist places all around the world is facing a new kind of problem – that is mass tourism. Now a days people are visiting places of interest in droves. People are now more aware about different tourist places due to social media and today’s generation is spending more on travel and leisure. There’s no escaping the problems that has come with mass tourism like traffic, over-crowding, littering, pollution, etc. Despite being a Mysorean I don’t feel visiting any of the events or tourist places during the Dasara or weekends considering the maddening traffic in core city area.

You are ignorant. Not , true that tourist places in the West are overwhelmed by tourism. Some Indians want to come as touriosts so that they can stay in the Western country and not go home. Many of them have become illegal immigrants. Your PM Modi, does not want them back!
Wonderful law -observing PM you have.
India is the most populated country in the world, surpassing China. Indians are breeding like rats. No Western tourists wants to come to your country which is fullk of stray dogs, gold chain snatching thieves and downright rapists.

I am a resident of Krishnarajasagara where thousands of people come to see the dam and Brindavan Park everyday but there are heaps of problems in the world famous Krishnarajasagara.

    Hello Jagadeesh
For a start, your Krishnarajasagara is not world famous, many in North India, do not know Krishnarajasagara .
It is your CM Bommai, his ministers and the district officials, who are pushing for more tourists. Why? Because, they can award
contracts, citing tourism increase, and 40% commission from those contracts goes straight into their personal accounts.

    @Mann Ki Baat!
Let’s sort out the ignorance first! 7.8 million tourists visited India in 2014 and since then until 2019 the number grew like over 2% per year and in 2019 it reached 13.8 Million .. in the years 2020-2021 due to covid the number dropped to near zero levels and 2022 is approximately 15%. Also, the medical tourism is over 2 million patients as of 2022.
So, your imagination that no western tourist wants to visit India is either ignorance or an agenda driven thought process!
Yes, India is the most populous nation, but partial credit goes to China too! China has been a victim of brutal famines in the last century and thus, it is said that the Chinese people have adapted to eat any creature that is moving or anything that kept them alive. They even eat Bats!!This is what China contributed Covid to the world from their wet markets. ,
Also, because of recurring famine they implemented a one child policy!
Inspired by China, our ex-PM Indira Gandhi/Sanjay Gandhi tried to control population by forced sterilization and it backfired badly! Today, you do not see many people who have more than 2 kids, especially in the urban areas>
Today, China wants more Children and relaxed the policy and encouraging the people to have more children by giving incentives, but even Chinese people are not trusting their government. It appears like India has some fans of China batting for them with fake imaginative stories. I can assure you, you can’t make a living in China by abusing China like in India!
Lastly you refer to others as Indians and call them as rapists! Maybe I suspect this must be your personal experience like your mother, daughter or wife may have been a rape victim and maybe you harbor resentment to all Indians because you could not pinpoint the culprit! Every country has their share of criminals and India is the most populous country definitely has it’s share. It is unfair to generalize and our sympathies for your miserable life! Maybe it is a good idea to consult a psychiatrist!! Good luck with your rest of the life!!
