P. Mallesh Memorial Natl. seminar on Mar. 1 and 2

Chief Minister to take part on Mar. 1 evening

Mysore/Mysuru: Marking the 90th birth anniversary of social activist late P. Mallesh, city’s Pragatipara Sanghatanegala Okkoota will be hosting a two-day National Seminar on the topic ‘P. Mallesh-90, the contemporary turbulence of Indian Democracy,’ at Kalamandira on Hunsur Road in city on Mar. 1 and 2.

Announcing this at a press meet here recently, veteran journalist G.P. Basavaraju said that noted woman activist of Delhi Teesta Setalvad will inaugurate the seminar at 10.30 am on Mar.1. Senior advocate Prof. Ravivarma Kumar, who is also a former State Advocate General, will deliver the keynote address. Actor Prakash Raj, social activist Ansul Avijit, senior Journalists Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, Dinesh Amin Mattu and Jagadish Koppa, academician V.P. Niranjanaradhya, Prof. Muzaffar Assadi and others will deliver talks.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will take part in the event at 5 pm and deliver the keynote address. MLA B.R. Patil will preside. Thereafter, P. Lankesh’s play ‘Antigone’ will be staged by Janamana Samskrutika Sanghatane at 6.45 pm.

Activist Ugranarasimhegowda said that the programme on Mar. 2 will begin with a talk by critic Prof. Rajendra Chenni on the topic “The forms of communalism” at 10.30 am. The second day will also features talks by Shivasundar, Prof. T.R. Chandrashekar, Babu Mathew, Siddanagouda Patil, K. Somashekar, senior Communist leader Brinda Karat, Prof. Sabitha Bannadi, Dr. R. Sunandamma, Dr. S. Chandrashekar and Dr. H.S. Anupama.

District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa will preside over the valedictory at 4.15 pm. Former Vice-Chancellor of Akkamahadevi Women’s University Prof. Sabiha Bhoomigowda will release writer Sukanya Kanaralli’s work ‘Different tales.’

Hyderabad-based renowned political scientist and writer KanchaIlaiah will read out the ‘Mysuru Declaration,’ an abstract of the two-day seminar.

Farmer leader Hoskote Basavaraj, writer Kalachannegowda, Abhiruchi Prakashana’s Ganesh, Savitha P. Mallesh, Dr. Harish Kumar and others were present at the press meet.
