P.V. Sindhu to inaugurate Dasara Sports on Oct.1

Cyclothon on Oct. 2, Water Sports to be held at KRS Backwaters

Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa will formally inaugurate this year’s Dasara Sports by handing over the sports torch to the organisers during the inauguration of Dasara-2019 atop Chamundi Hill tomorrow, said Dasara Sport Sub-Committee President M.B. Jagadish.

Addressing the media at Chamundi Vihar Stadium, here yesterday, he said that Dasara Sports will be held between Sept. 29 (today) and Oct. 6 at various locations in city.

This year, about 5,000 to 6,000 sportspersons, both men and women, from across the State will be taking part in 30 sports disciplines. The sports torch, after being lit, will travel across T. Narasipur, Hunsur, K.R. Nagar, Nanjangud, H.D. Kote and Periyapatna on Sept. 29 and Sept. 30 before reaching Mysuru. On Oct.1, the sports torch will travel across main thoroughfares of the city before lighting the Dasara Sports Flame at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium during the inauguration. At 4.30 pm, World Badminton Champion P.V. Sindhu will inaugurate the Dasara Sports Meet in presence of other guest.

Apart from hosting the events at Chamundi Vihar Stadium, the Dasara Sports Sub-Committee has organised sporting events at Manasagangothri campus, indoor stadiums at Maharaja’s and Yuvaraja’s College, Mysore Tennis Club in Chamarajapuram, National Institute of Engineering (NIE) and Sri Jayachamaraja College of Engineering (SJCE).

Until last year, boarding and lodging facilities for the athletes were being provided at various kalyana mantaps across the city. But, this year, committee has decided to provide lodging facilities at various hotels and guest houses. Meanwhile, lunch and dinner to the athletes will be served at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry from Sept. 30 to Oct. 5 morning.

The committee has also made arrangements to provide drinking water and food at all venues. Local transport facility is also being extended to ferry athletes from their hotels to the sporting venues. Each athlete will also be provided uniform.

Dasara Water Sports will be inaugurated by District Minister V. Somanna on Oct. 29 at 12.30 pm at KRS Backwaters (Blue Lagoon). MP Pratap Simha, MLAs G.T. Devegowda, L. Nagendra and others will be present.

At 4.45 pm, CM Yediyurappa will inaugurate ‘Sadruda Bharata’ and Children Sports at Kuppanna Park. Meanwhile, District Minister Somanna will inaugurate Wall Climbing. MP Pratap Simha, MLA L. Nagendra and others will be present.

This year, Cyclothon event will be held on Oct. 2 at 6.30 am. The 100 km event for men will be flagged off from Bannur Road Junction, which will pass through Gargeshwari, T. Narasipur, Mugur and reach Lalithadripura through T. Narasipur Ring Road, JSS Institute of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences and will culminate at Devikere atop Chamundi Hill. For Women, the 50km cyclothon will be flagged of from Mugur-Kollegal Circle and will pass through Mugur, Gargeshwari, T. Narasipur Ring Road, Lalithadripura, JSS Institute of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences and will culminate at Devikere.

The committee has also announced a cash prize of Rs. 30,000, Rs. 25,000, Rs. 20,000, Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 for first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth place winners. Dasara Sports Committee Vice-Presidents L. Jagadish, Jayram, Devaraj and Secretary Suresh were present.
