Pahalgam Terror Attack: India retaliates with Operation Sindoor

May 7, 2025

25-minute attack with 24 missiles eliminates 70 terrorists and leaves 60 others injured

New Delhi: A fortnight after the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, the Indian Armed Forces launched a massive, coordinated assault — codenamed ‘Operation Sindoor’ — targeting nine terror training camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Between 1.05 am and 1.30 am today (May 7), the Army, Navy and Air Force executed a swift 25-minute strike, unleashing 24 missiles that killed at least 70 terrorists and injured over 60. All strikes were precision-targeted, avoiding Pakistani military installations. The terror camps destroyed were linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Hizbul Mujahideen, and were located in Muridke (near Lahore), Bahawalpur and Sialkot in Pakistan, as well as Kotli and Muzaffarabad in PoK. The coordinated counter-offensive neutralised key infrastructure across these locations.  At a press briefing in Delhi, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, flanked by Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, described strikes as a “measured and proportionate” response to Apr. 22 massacre in Pahalgam, where 26 civilians, including a Nepali national, were shot dead.

“This was the largest civilian casualty in a terror attack since the 2008 Mumbai attacks,” said Misri. “Victims were executed at close range, in front of their families — acts of pure barbarity intended to terrorise.”

Misri added that the attack was meant to sabotage normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir and undermine the region’s thriving tourism economy, which recorded 23 million visitors last year. “Two weeks passed without any credible action from Pakistan. Justice was essential,” he said.

He affirmed that India’s response was “non-escalatory, proportionate, and designed to degrade cross-border terror capabilities.”

Impact and visuals

The pre-dawn hours were marked by multiple explosions across PoK and Pakistani territory. Residents reported hearing the roar of jets overhead, followed by a series of detonations.

Footage from ‘Operation Sindoor’ reveals the scale of destruction. One video shows a crowd on a dimly lit street watching a distant orange glow, followed by a whistling sound and a deafening explosion as an Indian missile strikes.

A bright fireball erupts, sending up thick columns of smoke. Panic grips the onlookers—some pray, others flee in terror.

Sources confirmed that Pakistan was caught completely off guard. “They believed India was conducting mock defence drills. Instead, India launched a real operation. Once again, a Modi-led India stunned Pakistan with surprise and stealth,” said a senior official.

Throughout the operation, PM Modi was continuously briefed by the Chief of Defence Staff, top intelligence officials and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, closely monitoring the mission as it unfolded.
