Pailwan Sunil wins ‘Dasara Kanteerava’ title

Curtains came down on the week-long Dasara wrestling tournament on Saturday last, with Pailwan Sunil Padataare of Mudhol winning the prestigious ‘Dasara Kanteerava’ title, Rohan Gabade of Haliyal winning the ‘Dasara Kesari’ title, Koravara Sanjeev of Davanagere winning ‘Dasara Kishore’ title and Lakshmi Patil of Haliyal winning the Women’s ‘Dasara Kishori’ title.

The tournament and the final contests took place at the wrestling arena in D. Devaraj Urs Multi-Purpose stadium in Dasara exhibition grounds premises.

Pailwan Sunil Padataare won the ‘Dasara Kanteerava’ title (above 86 kg category) by defeating Gopal Koli of Jamkhandi. Sunil Padataare was declared the winner as his opponent discontinued the bout midway due to indisposition. Sunil was presented with a Silver Mace weighing 1.25 kg. Pailwan Rohan Gabade of Haliyal won the ‘Dasara Kesari’ title (74 to 86 kg category) defeating his opponent Manjunath Gowdappanavar, also of                                           Haliyal by 10-2 points, in the bout that went on for 30 minutes.

Pailwan Koravara Sanjeev of Davanagere overcame his opponent P. Mahesh, also of Davanagere to bag ‘Dasara Kishore’ title (57 to 65 kg category), by 8-4 points. Lakshmi Patil of Haliyal bagged the ‘Dasara Kishori’ women’s title (52 to 67 kg category) defeating her opponent Swathi Patil of Belagavi, by outwitting her.

In another interesting contest, the  bout between Pailwan Deekhsit Kumar of Mysuru and Vikas of Srirangapatna for ‘Mysuru Kumara’ title, ended in a draw, with both the contestants failing to earn a single point.
