Parishat begins shifting of furniture from Palace premises to its own building in Vijayanagar
Mysuru: Following the Palace Board’s direction to shift its office located in the Mysore Palace premises, the District Kannada Sahitya Parishat began moving out of the Palace premises yesterday morning by shifting furniture to the Parishat’s own building in Vijayanagar.
The Parishat office located at the Jayarama Gate (North Gate) of Mysore Palace has been dilapidated, following which the Palace Board, which maintains the building has been asking the Parishat to vacate the office for taking up repair and maintenance works.
The repair works had become inevitable as the roof and the walls of the building have developed cracks.
Parishat District President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna said that the Parishat has been functioning in the existing office since 1990, after the All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana was held in the Palace premises that year.
Pointing out that the Palace Board has been asking the Parishat to shift its office so as to enable the Board to take up repair works, Dr. Rajanna said the Parishat will now relocate to its own building in Vijayanagar and the process has commenced with the moving of furniture.
Palace Board Deputy Director T.S. Subramanya said that the Board had asked the Parishat to shift for taking up repair works which will be undertaken by the city’s Nirmiti Kendra. The works are likely to be completed in six months, he said.
