Para-Military forces arrive in city for poll security

April 8, 2018

Mysuru: A team of central Para-Military forces have arrived in Mysuru along with a team of officers to provide security and monitor the election process.

The team’s location and accommodation have, however, been kept confidential for security reasons. Both City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subrahmanyeswara Rao and Mysuru Superintendent of Police Amit Singh admitted that the Central forces have come on election duty but declined to ddivulge moredetails.

Sources told Star of Mysore that many more battalions of the forces will arrive in Mysuru either today evening or tomorrow morning. The forces that have already come to city include Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

They will have the responsibility of maintaining order in the Constituencies in Mysuru and Chamundeshwari and Varuna constituencies that are set for high-profile electoral battles.

Normally, Para-Military forces arrive at a place of election three or four days before the voting date. This time, however, considering the sensitiveness of Mysuru district, forces have come a month in advance. Sources said that the forces will keep a hawk’s eye on electoral malpractices and will ensure peace during voting and the counting process.

They have been sent to Mysuru by the Election Commission of India and will coordinate with the State election authorities and the local Police, sources added.
