MCC revises water tariff; hikes Property Tax by 3%; introduces vehicle cess

Mysore/Mysuru: The financial burden on residents within Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) limits has increased from today (Apr. 1) with the Civic Body revising drinking water tariffs and raising several other civic charges.

Property tax, trade licence and Solid Waste Management (SWM) charges have been hiked, while a motor vehicle cess has also been introduced for automobile owners.

Revised water charges

Following directions from the Directorate of Municipal Administration, MCC has revised drinking water tariffs. The minimum monthly charge has been increased to Rs. 163.

The revised consumption slabs are:

  • Rs. 6.50 per 1,000 litres for consumption up to 25,000 litres.
  • Rs. 10 per 1,000 litres for 25,001 to 50,000 litres.
  • Rs. 15 per 1,000 litres for 50,001 to 75,000 litres.
  • Rs. 20 per 1,000 litres for 75,001 to 1 lakh litres.
  • Rs. 25 per 1,000 litres for consumption above 1 lakh litres.

Previous tariff

The earlier tariff, which had been in effect since 2012, fixed the minimum monthly charge at Rs. 125. Consumption up to 25,000 litres was billed at Rs. 5 per 1,000 litres, Rs. 8 for 25,001 to 50,000 litres, Rs. 12 for 50,001 to 75,000 litres, Rs. 16 for 75,001 to 1 lakh litres and Rs. 20 per 1,000 litres for consumption above 1 lakh litres.

UGD cess increased

The underground drainage (UGD) cess, earlier fixed at 30 percent of the total water bill, has now been increased to 40 percent.

For properties having only UGD connections without a drinking water supply, monthly charges will be Rs. 100 for domestic use, Rs. 200 for non-domestic use and Rs. 300 for commercial or industrial use.

Property tax hike

In line with the resolution passed at the MCC General Council Meeting held on Mar. 16, 2026, Property Tax has been increased by 3 percent or as per applicable market guidelines, effective from Apr. 1. However, property owners paying the tax during April will be eligible for a 5 percent rebate.

Motor vehicle cess

For the first time, MCC has decided to levy a motor vehicle cess linked to the Property Identification (PID) number. Property owners will have to pay Rs. 100 for two-wheelers and Rs. 500 for four-wheelers. The cess will be collected along with Property Tax and property owners have been asked to provide details of vehicles while paying the tax.

Trade licence and SWM

From the current financial year, Solid Waste Management (SWM) charges will also be collected from bulk waste generators among commercial establishments, along with trade licence fees.

The decision was taken following approval at the MCC General Council Meeting held on Mar. 16, in accordance with the Urban Development Department gazette notification dated Oct. 9, 2019. MCC has stated that detailed information on the revised charges is available on its official website.

It may be recalled that since 2025-26, domestic waste generators have also been paying service charges for garbage collection, transportation, processing and landfill maintenance, in line with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.
