TechNIEks -2018, the National-level Annual Techno-Cultural Fest of the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) kicked off another major Pre-techNIEks event ‘The Cyclothon’ at the Golden Jubilee Block this morning. The event was flagged off by Somanna, the senior security guard of the College at 6.15 am.
Around 100 active men and women took part in the event that was to support the blind under the theme ‘Pedal for Vision.’
The entire Cyclothon covered a total distance of 25kms starting from Golden Jubilee Block, passing through Silk Factory, Five Light Circle, RTO Circle, Ramaswamy Circle, Fire Brigade, Kukkarahalli Lake, All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Aishwarya Petrol Bunk, Kanakadasa Circle, Akkamahadevi Road, Sterling theatre and culminating at NIE College.
The first place winner completed the entire route in 47 minutes. In the men’s category, the following men won the event by securing the top spots: 1. H.M. Madhukumar; 2. N. Kamal Raj and 3. Kiran Raju. R.A. Vijaylaxmi, the only woman participant, completed the Cyclothon too in an impressive 1 hour and 31 minutes securing the first place.
Part of the funds raised was used to buy facilities for the Government Blind School, Bannimantap.
