April 25, 2026

Mysore/Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner (DC) G. Lakshmikanth Reddy has said, it is mandatory to seek permission from Local Bodies such as Village Panchayats, Town Panchayats, Town Municipal Council, City Municipal Councils and City Corporation for sinking borewells for agricultural, horticultural, drinking water and others purposes.

Presiding over 13th District Ground Water Committee meeting held at the DC’s Office here recently, he said that the people sinking borewells must get the confirmation letter with respect to distance between the ground water source and submit an online application at https://sevasin dhuservices.karnataka.gov.in for selecting the place for borewells under the online services of Department of Minor Irrigation and Ground Water Development and Ground Water Directorate.

Further, DC Lakshmikanth Reddy has also said that it is also compulsory to secure No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Karnataka Groundwater Authority for using groundwater for industrial, commercial, development of basic amenities, mining and entertainment purposes. Such entities can apply online applications through https://kgwa.in/Public. Failing which, action will be initiated as per the rules.

He said that Rs. 25,000 fine will be imposed on ring machines for sinking illegal borewells. “Precautionary measures should be taken by closing the borewells to prevent untoward incidents. Junior Engineers must ensure to keep an eye on the borewells sunk by the Government Departments, Boards and Corporation and quasi-Government agencies,” said DC Lakshmikanth Reddy.
