Mysore/Mysuru: World Heritage Day was celebrated by the Department of History at JSS College for Women, Saraswathipuram, Mysuru, on Apr. 21.
Resource person Dr. K.M. Mahadevaswamy, Lecturer, Department of History, JSS PU College, Saragur, opined that preserving our heritage is a collective responsibility. Highlighting the significance of the day, he noted that World Heritage Day serves as an inspiration to honour our cultural legacy and safeguard it for future generations.
He stated that World Heritage Day is observed annually on Apr. 18 to raise public awareness about the protection and importance of our invaluable historical and cultural assets.
He further emphasised that the core objective of this celebration is to foster awareness regarding conservation of human history, culture and natural wealth. He also pointed out that UNESCO is observing World Heritage Day-2026 with a special focus on the theme: “The urgent need to protect heritage sites facing threats from conflicts and disasters.”
Dr. Rechanna, Principal, who presided, urged students to focus on preserving traditions and culture of the land. He encouraged them to take pride in their heritage and strive toward gaining global cultural recognition for it.
