Plight of Agniveer aspirants in Mysuru

June 7, 2026

Sir,

It is indeed shocking and sad to see our young Indians, who had come to attend the Agniveer (Technical) Army Recruitment Online Examination at Hebbal in Mysuru, were forced to sleep on pavements and roadside shrubs amidst sultry weather conditions (Star of Mysore dated June 4).

The Ministry of Defence (MoD), which comes under the Government of India (GoI), has miserably failed to provide at least dormitories with basic facilities for a day or two. Is the MoD lacking funds to extend such facilities to candidates who are willing to serve in the Armed Forces without a second thought?

In addition, the District Administration in Mysuru has also failed in providing decent dormitories for over 800 Agniveer aspirants who had come to attend the online examination in the hope of serving the nation.

This incident clearly reflects the mindset of MoD officials and the lack of empathy from the District Administration. Many of the Agniveer aspirants may get disheartened as they are left to fend for themselves.

We have a vision for ‘Viksit Bharat’ in 2047. But this type of glaring maladministration reflects the aspirations of youth being taken for granted. Hope such Agniveer aspirants don’t face the same ordeals in future.
