Poetry losing semblance of structure and syntax: Scholar

February 23, 2018

Mysuru:  Regretting that Kannada Poetry is losing semblance of structure and syntax, Folk Scholar Dr. Kabbinale Vasanth Bharadwaj said that he wished to see a new crop of lyricists in Kannada.

He was speaking at a music programme based on his Mahakavya work ‘Kanaka Tarangini’ organised by Brahmavidya at Nadabramba Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road here recently.

Highlighting the need for a new breed of innovative poetry, Dr. Bharadwaj said that many from various spheres of life have commended him for his Mahakavya work ‘Kanaka Tarangini’

He further said that he was elated to note that the programme was held in the presence of Music Maestro Dr. R. Satyanarayana. Pointing out that his work was not focussed on a uniform syntax, he said that most of the Mahakavyas that were scripted after Kuvempu era, was monotonous in nature. Recalling the pains he had taken to script a poetic story based on the life of Kanakadasa, he said that he made attempts to script Kanakadasa Keertanas with a background of new musical tones.

He further said that he felt honoured to note that his Kanakadasa based Mahakavya had succeeded in making an impact among music connoisseurs.  Dr. Kabbinale Vasanth Bharadwaj was felicitated on the occasion.

Renowned Musician Dr. R. Satyanarayana, former faculty of Italy’s Venice University Jan Jussep Phillippe, former MUDA Chairman K.R. Mohan Kumar, KSOU faculty Dr. Jyothishankar and others were present.
