Pramoda Devi writes to Govt. for transfer of Baby Betta land

Mandya: Member of the erstwhile royal family Pramoda Devi Wadiyar has written to the Government about Baby Betta land in Pandavapura taluk in Mandya district asking the authorities to issue Khatha in her name as it is a private property belonging to Wadiyar family.

In a letter written on Feb.23, addressed to Principal Secretary, Revenue Department, the copy of which is available with Star of Mysore, Pramoda Devi has said that the Khatha has to be issued in respect of Survey Number 1, Amruthamahal Kaval (Baby Betta).

“I draw your attention to the RTC pertaining to the said property which stands in the name of Amruthamahal Kaval – Mysuru Samsthanada Maharaja. Further, the said property forms the part of the list of private properties of the Maharaja of Mysuru as on 26.01.1950. This confirms that it is private property,” she has stated.

“I write to bring to your kind notice that I had requested the Tahsildar Pandavapura to issue Khatha in my name in respect of Survey No.1 Amruthamahal Kaval, Chinakurali Hobli. Pandavapura vide letter dated October 18, 2017. Further, I addressed a letter on 29/12/2017 to the Deputy Commissioner Mandya with regard to this issue,” she has stated in the letter.

“Meanwhile, I learnt from the media reports that illegal activities are happening in our property mentioned above and I therefore request you to kindly instruct the Tahsildar to issue Khatha in my name and oblige. The copies of the reinvent documents are enclosed herewith for your ready reference,” she stated.

As per records, the Amruthamahal Kaval lands comprises of 1,623 acres. Maharaja Jayachamaraja Wadiyar (Pramoda Devi’s late father-in-law) had many private properties in his possession and the Amruthamahal in Mandya district was also one of them. After an amendment to the Indian Constitution in the year 1971, the special powers enjoyed by the royal family were withdrawn. However, the rights to enjoy their private properties remained.

After the demise of her husband Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar in 2013, Pramoda Devi is managing all the properties and hence according to her, Baby Betta should be transferred to her name and the   documents provided.
