I read with interest a news item in SOM dated Jan. 6 titled “Disneyland at KRS: Govt. sets up Advisory Committee” comprising 29 members under the Chairmanship of Water Resources Minister D.K. Shivakumar to resolve the problems that might arise during the upgradation of Brindavan Gardens.

The Panel consists of four Ministers, mlas and MP Pratap Simha, a jumbo Committee, all Government Officers from various Departments including the Head of Tourism Department, University of Mysore. Excellent so far.

Where are the experts of laser shows, sound and light shows, or even horticulture designs in this Committee? It is a well-known fact that in such Committees all Government servants just nod their heads and agree with whatever the Chair wishes for. Who has the guts to disagree with Ministers in an open meeting?

Shivakumar is known to bulldoze his ideas on many occasions and this is going to be no different. The Ministers will come with grand plans and all others in the Committee will just agree with their wishes with minor corrections and deletions.

If the Government was serious, it should have called real experts of the field, consulted them and drawn up the plans. This jumbo Committee has been created to just put an official seal to the Ministers’ grand plans of creating a so-called Disneyland. A jumbo farce.
