Protest against Srirangapatna SI for harassing farmer

February 15, 2017

Alleging harassment by Srirangapatna Sub-Inspector on a farmer, by joining hands with the owner of Athithi Resorts and Estate, more than 100 members of Karnataka Veerakesari Pade, staged a protest in front of the DC’s office here yesterday.

The members, who assembled in front of Visvesvaraya statue, took out a protest rally to the DC’s office where they submitted a memorandum. They also submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police (SP) in this regard.

Speaking on the occasion, Madhuvana Chandra, State President of Karnataka Veerakesari Pade, said that farmer Shantha Chakravarthi, who has 5.2 acre land in Survey No. 604, 928, 931 and 932, had entered into an agreement with Srikanthakumar, owner of Athithi Resorts and Estate on Feb. 2 in 2012, for developing the land and alleged that Srikanthakumar, instead of developing the land, was trying to encroach the said land with the help of rowdy elements.

He also alleged that Srirangapatna SI Puneeth, who had joined hands with the resort owner, summoned farmer Chakravarthi to the Police Station asking him (Chakravarthi) to get his land registered in a week’s time besides threatening of sending Chakravarthi and his family members to jail if he failed to do so.

The protesters also alleged that the SI was unnecessarily harassing the women folk of Chakravarthi’s family.

The protesters, demanding action on the culprits, threatened of intensifying the protest if no action is taken in this regard.

Hadya Umesh, Narendra Nayak, Ningarajamma, Andani, Sannamma, Kote Nagaraju and others took part in the protest.
