Protesters demand justice for Gauri Lankesh, resignation of K.J. George

Mysuru: Mysuru this morning witnessed separate protests by various organisations pressing for the fulfilment of their demands.

Seek Justice for Gauri Lankesh: Around 1,000 women under the banner of Mahilodaya Mahila Okkuta of Organisation for the Development of People (ODP) took out a silent protest rally this morning demanding justice for journalist Gauri Lankesh, who was killed by unidentified persons at her residence in Bengalauru recently. The rally which began from Gandhi Square passed through Sayyaji Rao Road, D. Devaraja Urs Road, JLB Road and Hunsur Road before culminating at the DC’s office. The protesters held placards in support of Gauri Lankesh and also demanded the arrest of the killers who were still at large. The protesters also demanded for a strong Legislation in the State to protect freedom of speech and expression and also uphold the dignity of women.

Fr. Staney D. Almeda, Fr. Alex Prashanth, conveners Sunitha, Sumathi, Ashok, Okkuta President Vijayamba and others took part in the protest.

Dy.SP M.K. Ganapathy case: Later, the Mysuru City BJP unit held a protest in front of Gandhi Square demanding Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George’s resignation in the wake of CBI taking up the investigation into Dy.SP M.K. Ganapathy suicide case. The protesters alleged that despite Supreme Court directing the CBI to take up the case, Chief Minister Siddharamaiah had not sought the resignation of K.J. George and added that if the CM failed to remove George from the Cabinet they would intensify the protest and seek the dismal of Congress Government in the State.

City BJP Unit President Dr. B.H. Manjunath, M.V. Ravishankar, Corporator M.V. Ramprasad & Karnataka Pradesh Hotel & Restaurants Association President M. Rajendra led the protest.

Install statue of Srikantadatta Wadiyar: The Akhila Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha and Aramane Horata Samithi jointly held a protest rally from Sri Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple to the DC’s office demanding for the installation of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar’s statue in front of Gun House. They also demanded a public apology from Chief Minister Siddharamaiah for allegedly speaking ill about Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar.

Around 200 members of Ursu Community from Mysuru and neighbouring district were part of the protest. Along the rally, they shouted pro-Wadiyars slogans. They had also installed a portrait of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar on the silver chariot which accompanied the protesters. On reaching the DC’s office, the protesters submitted a memorandum to DC D. Randeep. Farmer leaders Ashwathnarayana Raje Urs, Nandish Urs, Subramanya Raje Urs led the protest.

KSOU mark card scam: About 35 KSOU students staged a demo in front of the DC’s office demanding action against those involved in fake mark card scam. They urged the DC to intervene and come out with a solution to solve crises existing in the University and also help in KSOU getting re-recognition from UGC.
