Special Court to hear Prof. Kalburgi, Gauri Lankesh’s murder cases

December 6, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: The State Government today announced to set up a Special Court to hear the high-profile murder cases of prominent Kannada researcher Prof. M.M. Kalburgi and journalist Gauri Lankesh,

This follows a letter by Kavitha Lankesh, sister of Gauri Lankesh, expressing concern about the prolonged delay in trial and to appoint a full-time Judge and expedite the hearing to take the case to its logical end.

Following this, Chief Minister Siddharamaiah issued directions to Additional Chief Secretary, Internal Administration Department to take measures in this regard.

Both Prof. Kalburgi and Gauri Lankesh were known for their vocal activism against right-wing ideologies and were assassinated in separate incidents. Kalburgi was shot in his house at Dharwad on Aug. 30, 2015, while Gauri was gunned down outside her house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru on Sept. 5, 2017.
