Public libraries have helped writers: Dr. K. Leela Prakash

November 25, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru:  Senior writer and Dr. K. Krishnamurthy Research Foundation Director Dr. K. Leela Prakash said that if not for Public Libraries, the life of writers would have come to the streets.

She was speaking at the valedictory of the National Libraries Week-2023 organised at Kuvempunagar branch Library on Vishwamanava Double road recently.

Pointing out that Public Libraries are buying the books of writers in lots and this has greatly helped the writers, Dr. Leela Prakash maintained that Public Libraries are also encouraging the young and the old writers alike. But things have changed in the post COVID period, with the Government not showing much interest in bulk buying of books. As such, many of the writers are facing a lot of difficulties as their books have piled up in their homes unsold, she regretted.

Recalling the contributions of S.R. Ranganathan, the Indian Librarian and educator who is considered as the ‘Father of Library Science in India’, she said that his Five Laws of Library Science brought about a revolution in Library Science in the country.

On the occasion, prizes were distributed to the winners of the quiz organised as part of the National Library Week. The winners were Dayananda – first prize, K. Rani – second prize and Roopa – third prize.

Kuvempunagar Branch Library Committee Member A.G. Devaraju, In-charge Librarian H.V. Ramesh and others were present.
