Moonlight Music: Godkhindi Brothers to perform in city

Mysore/Mysuru: Renowned flautist Pandit Pravin Godkhindi will present the monthly Moonlight Music Concert (Bansuri) at Suttur Mutt at the foot of Chamundi Hill at 6 pm on Nov. 27. He will be accompanied by his brother Pandit Kiran Godkhindi on tabla.

Pt. Pravin Godkhindi, who was initially interested in flute,  trained under his father Vidwan Venkatesh Godkhindi and later took interest in Bansuri. He gained knowledge of laya under the guidance of Mridanga Vidwan Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma. After mastering music and the instrument, he has given many concerts both nationally and internationally. He has won many awards throughout his career. Firstly, he was conferred with ‘Surmani’ title given by Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai, at the age of just 16 years. At the age of 18, he bagged the first prize in Akashvani’s National-level Contest and he was designated as an A Grade artiste of Akashvani at the age of just 21 years.

Although he passed his Engineering Degree with distinction, he has made music his life. He has also scored music for many films and TV serials. Fusion Music is his other passion.

Like his elder brother Pravin, Kiran also learnt his early lessons in music from his father. Later he developed interest in tabla and mastered it, by training under Tabla Maestro Ustad Sheikh Dawood, Pandit Prabhakar Chari of Goa, Lalgiri Goswami, Ustaz Abdullah of Delhi and Pandit Raghunath Nakod of Dharwad.

Pt. Kiran has given concerts across the globe along with his brother Pt. Pravin Godkhindi through ‘Krishna Fusion Band.’

Pt. Kiran Godkhindi is engaged in teaching tabla to those interested at ‘Sanjog Bansuri Mahavidyalaya’ started by his father.

He has also scored music for many films and TV serials.
