Mysuru: The Forest Department has invited public objections to a proposal seeking permission to remove 32 trees along National Highway-766 (NH-766) on Mysuru-Nanjangud Road for road safety improvement works planned by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). 

In a public notice issued under Section 8(3) of the Karnataka Tree Preservation Act, 1976 (as amended in 2014), the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Mysuru Regional Division, has announced that objections from citizens will be accepted until July 2, 2026. 

The proposed tree felling pertains to the stretch between APMC A-Gate and B-Gate near Mysuru-Nanjangud signal junction, where NHAI has planned long-term remedial measures to address identified accident- prone blackspots.  

According to the Forest Department, the Project Director of NHAI’s Project Implementation Unit (PIU), Mysuru, has sought permission to remove the trees, stating that they obstruct the execution of the road safety project. 

Following an inspection of the site, Forest Department officials prepared a mahazar and measurement records of the trees proposed for removal.  

The survey identified 32 trees belonging to various species, including 10 eucalyptus, three rain trees, two teak trees, four karijali trees, one honge, one arali, three mahogany, one maddi, one akasha mallige, one gulmohar, one tamarind, one neem, one tapasi and two other forest species. 

As mandated under the Karnataka Tree Preservation Act, public objections must be considered before permission for felling is granted. The Forest Department has therefore called upon citizens, environmental groups and other stakeholders to submit objections, if any, in writing. 

Objections may be sent by e-mail to: [email protected] or by post to the Divisional Forest Officer, Mysuru Regional Division, Forest Bhavan, Ashokapuram, Mysuru-570008. All representations must reach the office by 5.30 pm on July 2.
