Mysore/Mysuru: A woman farmer was killed in rain related incident at Suttur in Nanjangud taluk in the district on Friday. With this, a total of two persons have been killed and four injured in similar incidents reported in the district.

Madamma had gone to agricultural field to bring fodder to feed the livestock, when the branch of a huge tree fell on her due to heavy wind, leading to her death.

It may be mentioned that, Shivakumar (34), a construction worker was killed after he was hit by the zinc sheet covering the roof of a shed, when it blew of due to gusty wind at Nadanahalli on Mysuru- T. Narasipur Road on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, a day after the heavy rain wreaked havoc in various parts of the city, the uprooted trees and fallen tree branches are still being cleared, exposing the lack of coordination among various Government Departments. While Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Limited have been involved in restoration works, with electricity poles damaged due to the wind, Forest Department and Revenue Department have stayed away, affecting the pace of restoration works.

Moreover, the lack of preparedness on the part of various Departments also came to fore, as the officials were confused about the mode of action.

Following the power cut that lasted for several hours in most of the localities in the city, the traffic signals at most of the circles and junctions in the city, were non-functional till the power supply was restored.

The Reverse Osmosis (RO) water plants installed at different localities in the city were also affected due to power cut, with people rushing from one plant to another to fetch water.

Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) also had to bear the brunt, forcing water consumers to rely on nearby borewells to meet domestic water demand.

Though most of the houses are equipped with water sumps to store water and pump with the help of motor to overhead water tank, the disruption in power supply added to their woes.

National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of Seshadripuram Degree College in the city joined in clearing the fallen trees and branches near Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Office, Hotel Metropole Junction on JLB Road to name a few.

NSS Officer Dr. Raghavendra, led  volunteers Divith, Darshan, Murali, Vinay, Nithin Krishna, Chethan Singh and others in the clearance drive.
