Mysuru: An elderly lady, who was living with her mentally-challenged son lost her house due to heavy rains that lashed the city yesterday. The woman and son are homeless now and local residents have appealed the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) officials to provide her relief as they have nowhere to go.
Local residents who telephoned Star of Mysore this morning said that heavy rains lashed Gandhinagar yesterday and most of the roads and drains were clogged. At Ward 41 near the Annamma Temple Second Cross, the rains brought down the house of Alphonse Mary, an elderly lady living with her 30-year-old mentally-challenged son.
Alphonse Mary said that she had been to the church yesterday and the house had collapsed at 8 pm by the time she returned. Fortunately, neighbours who saw the shaky structure rescued her son and accommodated him in their house. “We have no relatives in Mysuru and this is our only property. The house was dilapidated since years and I cannot repair it as I don’t have money. With much difficulty we manage to eat two-square meals a day,” she said.
A team of residents led by Syed Jameer helped the lady and her son collect their clothes. They have appealed the MCC officials to intervene and provide shelter to the mother-son duo at the earliest.
