Ramya’s mother to enter poll fray as independent candidate

March 22, 2018

Mandya: Former MP and AICC Social Media Head Ramya’s mother Ranjitha has expressed her intention to contest from Mandya  Assembly segment in the forthcoming Assembly polls.

Ranjitha’s announcement created a flutter on Tuesday as she made no bones about her disappointment with the Congress for ignoring her candidature, though she has been with the party for two decades. Her discussion to contest the Assembly assumes significance at a time when AICC President Rahul Gandhi is on a two-day tour of the State.

Speaking to press persons here on Tuesday, Ranjitha said that she had taken the decision to contest independently as the senior leaders of the party had failed to give her any responsibility.

Maintaining that she had been working for the Congress for the past 28 years and had requested the leaders to recognise her services, Ranjitha said that, however, her request has not been considered.

Stating that party leaders were only giving assurances on giving any responsibility to her, she said that she can’t wait any longer and has decided to contest as an independent candidate in the elections. However, she was yet to inform her daughter Ramya of her decision, she added.

Ranjitha is currently staying in Bengaluru after Ramya was appointed as AICC Social Media Head at Delhi.

Meanwhile, sources said that Ranjitha had timed her announcement to enter poll fray as independent, in order to attract the attention of AICC President Rahul Gandhi, who is on two-day tour of the State on Mar.20 and 21.
