Reflectors needed for safe driving

June 21, 2026

Sir,

There are some places which I pass everyday where I see some massive trees that have been preserved even though they occupy a portion of the road.

One is on the Kukkarahalli Lake Road, near the Dhobi Ghat beside the University Swimming Pool. I have almost crashed into it a couple of times, while driving during the night (see photo).

Another is right before the Chamarajapuram Railway Station. Similarly there is a tree in Srirampura which is right in the middle of the main road. Clearly there is a need of good quality, big sized reflectors on them.

Another place is the big old house (the name plate says that it is the residence of a couple of High Court Lawyers) on Irwin Road that juts at least 15 feet into the ever busy road.

Then there is the newly constructed Circle near the Kuvempu Park, near A2Z stores, in Kuvempunagar. This is a very badly designed one with multiple rounds, one above the other. It is very big in size, so big, in fact that one cannot see vehicles coming from the adjoining roads.

There are no reflectors or multi coloured lights encircling it, like the prominent circles do in the heart of the city.

All the above places mentioned above are waiting for major accidents to happen. There might be several such places in other areas of the city. It is the duty of the civic authorities to identify such places and make it safer for the residents of the city. Otherwise unnecessary injuries and deaths is bound to happen.
