Release of ‘Surabhi Sinchana’ special issue and Veena Concert by Prof. R. Visweswaran

Mysore/Mysuru: Surabhi Ganakala Mandira will be bringing out a special issue of its quarterly publication, ‘Surabhi Sinchana,’ dedicated to the life and achievements of senior and eminent musician, Prof. R. Visweswaran, which will be released at a function to be held tomorrow (Oct. 30) at Sangeetha Kalanidhi Mysore K. Vasudevacharya Bhavan (Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha) on JLB Road in city at 10 am in the presence of Prof. R. Visweswaran.

Renowned Sanskrit scholar and writer Dr. H.V. Nagaraja Rao will be the chief guest.

This will be followed by a grand Veena Concert by Prof. Visweswaran accompanied by Vid. Tumkur B. Ravishankar on mridanga.

The internationally acclaimed artiste, Prof. Visweswaran is not only a versatile veena artiste and vocalist, but also a reputed vaggeyakara. Besides, he is an acclaimed musicologist, having published several scholarly works with original insights and presented numerous lecture-demonstrations in prestigious platforms at home & abroad.

He is also a teacher par excellence held in high regards. A documentary on his life has been produced by Theodre Thomas from Walt Disney Pictures and he has also figured in a documentary produced for UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation).

The Kendriya Sangeeta Nataka Academy’s Tagore award, Rajya Sangeeta Vidwan award, Rajyotsava award, T. Chowdiah National award, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi National award, Hon. Doctorate from Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music University etc. are among the accolades showered on him.

With his own unique style of playing veena, it is fascinating to watch him performing at the age of ninety-two with complete dedication. All are welcome to the function and concert.
