Remit Rs. 42.19 lakh cess to District Library Authority

DC tells heads of Civic Bodies

Mysore/Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar has directed Commissioners and Executive Officers of all CMCs, TMCs and Town Panchayats of the district to immediately remit  total pending Library cess of Rs. 42.19 lakh to the District Library Authority (DLA).

Presiding over the 75th meeting of the District Library Authority at his office here on Wednesday, Sankar instructed the officials to directly credit the Library cess, which is 6 percent of the property tax collected by the civic bodies, to the Escrow account of DLA.

The DC directed officials to evacuate the old TMC building at Bannur and hand it over to the Library Department  and also allot a site within 15 days. The other instructions included construction of a toilet at H.D. Kote Library building for the benefit of readers, repair of the new library building at Nanjangud and handing over of the building to the Library Department, sanction of a site for the construction of  new Library building at Saragur and expedition of construction works of T. Narasipur Library building. Sankar also instructed Hunsur CMC authorities to remit Library cess that has been pending since 2005-06 to the Authority, by March 2020.

Deputy Director of Library Department B. Manjunath, who is also the District Library Authority Secretary, said that one Library branch in the district will be completely computerised in the coming days and the library at H.D. Kote will be selected for the same in the next year.

The meeting also approved the Rs.1,71,20,000 budget for 2020-21 financial year.

District Urban Development Cell Planning Director Loknath, District Library Authority Vice-Chairman C.P. Ramasesh, member M.G. Sadanandaiah, ZP Deputy Secretary Krishnamraju, University of Mysore faculty M. Chandrashekar, Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) Executive Engineer Mallappa and other officials were present at the meeting.
