Rename superfast train as ‘Wodeyar Express’

February 12, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha has urged Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw to rename the Mysuru-Bengaluru superfast express as ‘Wodeyar Express’ to mark the contribution of the Wadiyars to the development of the region including vast railway networks.

Meeting the Railways Minister in New Delhi, the MP said that the Wadiyar dynasty has contributed immensely to the region that led to all-round development, innovation and prosperity. In recognition to their contribution, Train Number 12614/ 12613 Superfast Daily Express must be renamed as ‘Wodeyar Express’,  Simha said.

Listing some of the pro-people programmes undertaken by the erstwhile rulers, the MP said that the Wadiyars took initiative of bringing in rail networks to the region and accordingly, the development of rail infrastructure was given a fillip in the princely State of Mysore.

Wadiyars improved rural infrastructure, public health, education, agriculture, irrigation, industry and railways. The same rail networks helped the State in efficiently handling emergency situations due to droughts and famines and for monetising the rich material resources, he noted.

Recalling the contributions of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, the 24th ruler of Mysore State, Simha told the Minister that in recognition of his contributions, the Karnataka Government had sent a proposal to the Railways to name the Mysuru Junction Railway Station as Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar Mysuru Junction.

The MP also urged the Railway Minister to extend the Bengaluru-Mangaluru via Mysuru train service till Karwar and also increase the frequency of the train from the present tri-weekly status so that it can help the business community and also travelling residents of Mysuru and Karwar.

‘Ensure proper entry & exit points on Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway’

Meeting Alka Upadhyaya, the Chairperson of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), regarding the on-going works of the access controlled 10-lane Mysuru-Bengaluru Economic Corridor, Pratap Simha requested her to ensure that proper entry and exit points are made at all five bypasses to six towns along the Expressway.

This is to facilitate the smooth movement of people and traffic who do not enter the Corridor.

MP Pratap Simha with NHAI Chairperson Alka Upadhyaya.

He said that proper as-per-standard entry and exits where the bypasses end and begin have not been provided while simple entry and exit has been proposed that are far away from the bypass beginning and end points.

Roads constructed to bypass Bidadi, Ramanagara, Channapatna, Maddur and Srirangapatna, has a drawback as the current design of the highway does not provide for entry and exit points near the towns and commuters have to traverse for 7 to 8 kms along the service roads before entering the towns, he said.

The MP has sought modifications so as to ensure seamless travel and eliminate any chances of accidents due to confusion of movement by road users. Without seamless travel for both the expressway users and the other road users, the very purpose of the 10-lane road is defeated, he said.

The communal mindset of BJP is very clear. For their cheap politics they are using the names. Why not Train number 16215/ 16216 be renamed as Wadiyar Express.
They have nothing to do with Wadiyar dynasty. If thy really wanted to showcase the contribution of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiya, they would have selected from long distance trains which are going out of Karnataka. Train number 16229/16230 (Varanasi), 12975/12976 (Jaipur), 16210/16209 (Ajmer) and 22818/22817 (Howrah) would have been the best candidates as they go to north India, where the culture of Karnataka should be highlighted.

    @Mohammed Khasimi
There was cheap communal aspect in naming an express train: ” Tipu Express”.
Do you agree with this? I do not, not because of any communal aspect, but because of what a thug Tipu Sultan was, imprisoning the legitimate ruler-the Wadiyar.
I would rather rename this express as ” Wodeyar Express”. This villain Tipu should never be remembered.

  3. Sna says:

All Thugs thing others are thugs .
Tippu sultan is the greatest Ruler and The Tiger of Mysore .
Hynas can only envy a Tiger.

  5. Sam says:

Renaming is totally useless exercise. Good should not be forgotten. ALL THE MORE , EVIL DEEDS SHOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN AT ALL. Instead of RENAMING each compartment must have a story board which should show the true achievements of Tippu-both Good and Bad Without any distortion- not the versions we read in out history books.

Tipu and good???? He was the evil thug who orchestrated genocide and conversion

  7. Mujeer khan says:

Gusto, Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan could have killed wodeyars and his entire clan! Did they do it? No, they didnt!!! Out of respect! They believed in communal Harmony and not like the today’s hate mongerers and baffons who divide Indians on religion. Mysore was nothing before Hyder Ali took the reigns of Mysore Kingdom, he never proclaimed himself as king or did Tipu Sultan, people confuse that Tipu was a king, no a religious person named him as Tipu Sultan!

  9. Biddappa says:

@Mujeer khan sahib , you are so right in pointing out that he did not kill Wodeyars. He was true practitioner Of the religion of peace. He should not be judged by how many thousands of innocent Hindus aka kafirs he killed or converted by sword but by the few people who spared. So no living person have a right to protest as they are still alive, that means Tippu spared them and did not kill them.

  10. swamy says:

We should have trains named ‘Chamaraja’ and ‘Krishnaraja’ express… Not just wodeyar.
Shimoga intercity should be named ‘Kuvempu’ express.
Belagavi superfast should be named ‘Sangolli rayanna express’

  11. Gusto says:

@Mujeer Khan and his supporter Biddapppa ,the lackey
What nonsense you are spouting? But, we should know you are a Muslim and hence will support any one who is a Muslim regardless of what they did, by painting them as great. For Muslims, their religion transcends everything. We see their actions every day around the world. Despicable.
Why did Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, the two villains, you regard as heroes, imprison the Wodeyar, the rightful ruler? Was there no rule of law?
Your observation that they did not kill Wodeyar and did improve Mysore by doing so is pathetic nonsense.
If they had killed Wodeyar, they would have faced the immediate wrath of people,, and the British would have quickly stepped in to remove them.
As I said, replace the ‘Tipyu Express’ as ‘Wodeyar Express’ or better ” Krishnaraja Express’ and rename the nonsensical Gol Gumbaz Express as ‘Jayachamaraja Express’.
FYI, during the last Indo-Pakistan war ( Bangladesh was created in the end), a Muslim family doctor, who had practice in VV area, was caught sending detailed information of Bengaluru to Pakistan through a high power transmitter which he hid in his Bungalow. He was born, brought up and studied medicine in Mysuru. His religion was more important than his patriotism.
Blame the Congress starting from Nehru, who created the situation saying Muslims are a minority(they were not), hence needed their own laws, making Hindus the second class citizens. It is the Congress that created this situation , where the villain and thug duo-Hyder Ali andTipu Sultan are feted as heroes.

  12. Mann Ki Baat! says:

    Typical Muslims.
Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan mere imprisoned the young Wodeyar, the rightful ruler and did not kill him! That makes them humane and that they did it to improve the region!! If this is not scandalous nonsense, I know what it is. Typical Islamists, we see allover the world.
When Greece and Turkey became independent, they exchaned the Greek population in Turkey with the Turkish population in Greece.
At the time of independence, many leaders advised Nehru and Gandhi, wanted to do the same, to exchange Muslim population in India with the Hindu population of the country which Jinnah declared as Islamic ,called Pakistan. Nehru declined. Thus started the special minority status of this crowd, whose population in India, is the second largest Muslim population in the world.
Simply rename the Tipu Express as Krishnaraja Express.
Congress will protest and Sonia the Italian barmaid and her fat son will howl-lett hem.

  13. Gusto says:

Hey Mujeeb and his sidekick Biddappa
Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan committed crime by imprisoning the rightful ruler Wodeyar. They were criminals, pure and simple.
I read and watch your kind of excuses by every Islamic organisation that committed crimes in the world. Despicable.
Yes blame Congress -Nehru in particular and Gandhi, after what Jinnah did.
Simply rename the express trains: Tipu Express and Gol Gumbaz as Krishnaraja Express and Jayachamaraja Express.

  14. Captain Jack Sparrow says:

I wouldn’t just blame this Islamist Mujib for elevating two criminals called Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan into kindly rulers, ignoring the fact they were usurpers and hence thugs.
Those days, when Mysuru had Tongas-all Tongawallahs were Muslims, with multiple wives, and a dozen children each, thanks to Jawaharlal Nehru every Tongawallah will bore you while driving the poorly nourished horse, about stories of the greatness of Tipu!
The Congress needs these Muslim votes-massive numbers of Muslims live in Karnataka and elsewhere. The foolish governments states and central pipe funds in to the Wakf boards, so that they all can have their Haj, while the rest of Hindus can starve for want of funds, and go to hell.
In a shoort time, Tipu Express will be joined by Hyder Ali Express, Malik Kafur Express, Humayun Express and why not Zakir Hussain and Fakrudin Ali Ahmad expresses, after rall they were presidents of India!
The only other idiot who thinks Tipu Sultan was great is Your current president Kovind- a man of ignorance.

  15. Don’t see from religious prospective, you can also keep great APJ abdul kalam express we have to see what they have done to our country, since Wodeyar done enough to mysore i think he deserves it,………………
