Sir,
This is to highlight an ongoing issue I have been facing regarding repeated and inaccurate traffic violation notices generated by AI-based surveillance cameras in Mysuru. Despite consistently adhering to traffic rules, I have received several erroneous violation notices over the past few months.
Given that this may be affecting other law-abiding citizens as well, I believe bringing this matter to public attention could help raise awareness and prompt corrective measures from the authorities. While the intention behind installing AI cameras — to promote traffic discipline and road safety — is commendable, their current implementation has unfortunately resulted in significant inconvenience for citizens.
Over the past six months, I have received nine traffic violation notices related to a two-wheeler registered in my name. Of these, only one notice was valid, involving an instance where my brother was riding the vehicle, with my father as pillion, without a helmet near Teresian College signal. The remaining violations — mostly from JP Nagar Link Road and Udbur Circle — are completely inaccurate. In fact, I have not visited these areas in over two years.
Attempts to resolve the issue have been both frustrating and time-consuming. I initially approached Nazarbad Police Station, from where I was redirected to the Commissioner’s Office, then to Mysuru Rural Police Station, and finally to the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) Office at the Police Guest House. Despite these efforts, the issue remains unresolved.
I take traffic rules seriously. Even my children, aged 9 and 11, always wear helmets when riding pillion. Yet, these recurring false notices wrongly portray me as a habitual offender.
I now receive at least one erroneous notice every month, and if not for the assistance of a helpful Traffic Officer I am now in contact with, I would be forced to visit a Police Station monthly.
I urge Traffic Police Department to urgently review and rectify AI-based traffic monitoring system. It is crucial to ensure that technology meant to enhance civic order does not instead subject citizens to unjust harassment.
