United Breweries Ltd. employees stage protest in city

Mysuru: Over two dozen employees of United Breweries Ltd. at Thandya Industrial Area in Nanjangud taluk, staged protest in front of  Deputy Commissioner’s Office in city last morning demanding the management of the factory to withdraw the transfer order of its three employees.

They held the protest under the banner of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), District Unit. They shouted slogans against the management of the factory for its anti-labour policies and sought the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner to ensure justice to the employees.

They alleged that hundreds of employees were working in the breweries for the past seven years, but the management has been harassing them to work beyond 15 hours against the stipulated eight hours without ensuring any social and safety facilities.

As employees union had submitted a memorandum to factory’s management seeking facilities to them recently, the management had transferred three of its employees to different units at Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Orissa as a punishment for demanding facilities. The company has been earning crores of rupees as revenue but not ready to share its profit and extend facilities, they alleged.

The protestors threatened to intensify their protest until the management withdrew its transfer order of three employees.

CITU District General Secretary H.S. Jagadeesh, President K.K. Hemanth Kumar, Joint Secretary Dhananjay, Organising Secretary P. Nagesh, Treasurer Vidyadara and others took part in the protest.
