Modi most internationally recognised PM: MLA Ramdas

Mysuru:  International Yoga champion Kushi was felicitated by MLA S.A. Ramdas at a function here yesterday. The event was organised by Rotary Mysore Midtown in association with Rotary Heritage Mysuru at the Rotary West Auditorium. Later speaking, Ramdas said that if BJP Government had come to power, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would have inaugurated the International Day of Yoga on June 21 in the city. But, due to political ups and downs, the programme  has been cancelled.

However, Ramdas called for the people of the city to participate in large numbers on June 21 and said that it was a matter of pride for all Mysureans that Kushi is the recognised face in the world of yoga. After Modi became the Prime Minister he had the distinction of taking the ancient system of yoga to the forefront in the world and was instrumental in declaring June 21 as International Day of Yoga.

“Once when PM Modi was addressing the US Senate, the Senators there gave him a standing ovation 17 times, appreciating his thoughts and ideas. No other PM in the country had so far had this kind of recognition,” he said.

Thanking the voters of K.R. Constituency for his convincing victory with a huge margin, he said that he was always there in the service of the people. Recalling the time when he was student in 1974 and had come to Mysuru, when Devaraj Urs was the CM, he said that due to the untimely death of the then K.R. Constituency MLA Suryanarayan Rao there was a re-election and he remembered the speech of Urs.

“I cannot believe that I am representing the same constituency now. I am always ready to work in the interest of the constituency. The voting percentage this time was very low and the party workers had expressed their anxiety. But when the results came it was revealed that the intellectuals and informed voters had voted for me in 198 booths,” he said.

Replying to the felicitation, Kushi said: “Everyone wants to be a part of the International Day of Yoga on June 21. But that will just be a one day celebration. Hence, everyone must inculcate the practise of yoga in their daily lives for healthy body and mind.”
